Kystnavigasjon for kadettfarledsbevis/Coastal Navigation for PEC Classroom and practice
18 Nov - 21 Nov 2024 - NTNU i ÅlesundThe PEC regulations of 01.01.2011 set the standard of the Cadet PEC (= Cadet Pilot Exemption Certificate). This scheme is based on the ordinary PEC and can be achieved by systematic training on board regardless of the stipulated requirements for sailing on the coast (competence by study rather than experience at sea).
The course is accredited by NCA (Norwegian Coastal Administration) and it has been run as an elective for the 3-year students at NTNU Aalesund. After the course, you will meet claim 1 in The PEC regulations §18 from NCA and obtain the Cadet-PEC. The course builds on the NCA model course "Coastal Navigation for midshipman". - Chart and understanding of charts
- Use of ECDIS in coastal waters/fairways
- Radar limitations and opportunities of coastal voyage
- Learning of coastal waters/fairways and markings by the Norwegian coast
- Ship movements in restricted fairways, including GPS Regulations
- Maneuver theory and coastal sailing techniques
- Voyage planning and cooperation
- Simulator exercises in groups, and one by one
Examination
The exam consists of a theoretical part and a practical in simulator. To take the exam, the candidate must have attended the lessons and training.
