NTNU Summer School: Artificial Intelligence in Water Management Classroom and practice
8 Jun - 12 Jun 2026 - NTNU Ålesund Practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the water domain.
The water sector is undergoing rapid transformation driven by digitalization. This course focuses on the practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the water domain. Students will work hands-on with selected AI and machine learning (ML) algorithms, implementing them in Python and applying them to real-world data and case studies from the water sector. Through practical exercises and projects, students will develop skills to solve operational and decision-making challenges in modern water systems.
Upon completing the summer school, you will:
- Recognize and evaluate major technological developments in machine learning and their relevance to water infrastructure systems.
- Understand and explain core concepts, methodologies, and algorithms in machine learning engineering, including supervised and unsupervised learning, and their practical applications in water infrastructure.
- Develop practical competence in applying machine learning techniques to modelling, analysis, and decision-support challenges in water infrastructure systems.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, individual reading of selected articles, exercises and software laboratory sessions.
